Heart of the Winter Wolf
...intelligent,
well-written and
captivating...
Debut authors are usually full of
surprises, but I've found the new
ones who write intelligent,
well-written and captivating novels
are gifts to the readers who are the
first to discover them. In Harper's tale
of the Macleod Wolfen Changelings,
she opens up a wonderful new world
with this emotionally charged and
fabulous tale of family loyalty and
love that I found quite satisfying.

Jillian is a superb heroine, a survivor
-- a brave young woman who battles
back from a vicious attack holding
onto her sanity through visions of a
great white wolf who saved her from
death. Her love, trust and fearlessness
of the wolf was beautifully portrayed
as well as her confusion over the
attraction for the stranger James.

The author did a wonderful job of
taking James' resolve to never walk as
a man again until the wolf side of him
awakens his humanness; tying it all
together with Jillian's past as his
human brain struggled to remember
why she was so familiar. Additionally,
having lived as a wolf for thirty years
to forget the human pain of his loss,
the author did a fabulous job of
slowly bringing James around in how
to live life as a man walking on two
feet, and using hands that had
forgotten the simplest of tasks.

While the lead protagonists of Jillian
and James were beautifully rendered
with depth, emotional passion and
character, the author balances out the
story with a captivating secondary
cast of characters adding substance,
realism, and making you hope that the
author continues with additional
stories of the Macleod Changelings.

In short, those who like a good dish
of emotion served up with their
paranormal reads will find that this is
one deliciously tasty read and should
be savored by all!

Heart of the Winter Wolf is a
remarkable story of belonging, need
and passion. I fell in love with
James. I could practically share in
his sorrow and desire as he wishes
to be with Jillian. They both create a
heated tension that draws like a
magnet. Dani Harper does more than
write a mesmerizing page-turner, she
breathes life into her characters. She
crafts an earth-shattering story
allowing the character’s believable
emotions to leap out and grab the
reader in this rare impressive tale.

This is a book you would like to
tell everybody about because
you just can’t say enough about it.
What an absolutely fantastic read.  I
loved Heart of the Winter Wolf.  The
author used the correct mixture of
humor (Birkie educating Jillian about
the town), paranormal (wolf
changelings), strength (Jillian’s past
and how she overcame it) and love
(the feeling between the McCleod
clan and James with Jillian).  This
story drew me in and made me want
to travel back to the parts of Alberta
I have been before, just to see what
I may have missed.  I cannot
recommend Heart of the Winter
Wolf enough!  I hope to read more
by this author in the future.

...I enjoyed reading Heart of the
Winter Wolf by Dani Harper. This
book is full of twists and turns and
unexpected phenomena. James is a
very complex hero. He’s full of
emotion and love. Jillian is a very
strong and determined heroine and the
two are great together. Ms. Harper
has written an extremely potent book
of love and love lost and then finding
love again. I was totally captivated by
this story and you will be too. Read
Heart of the Winter Wolf today.

More than a typical wolf-to-human
changeling story, HEART OF THE
WINTER WOLF by Dani Harper pulls
the reader into the world of veterinary
science and the heart of Jillian
Descharme, the doctor summoned to
help release a wounded spirit.

This is a story about risking everything
for love and many other things dearest
to the heart, and about starting over
when there seems to be no hope for
happiness ever again. A long-ago
experience with a white wolf leaves
Jillian with a hunger to understand all
she can about wolves. James Macleod
might just be the expert she needs to
find, and when the two are brought
together, they are forced to deal with
old demons. Releasing James from the
hurt he’s suffered seems to be an
insurmountable task, but Jillian is an
expert at healing.

I was very pleasantly surprised by
HEART OF THE WINTER WOLF. It
is a story filled with emotion and
shows that even in the unlikeliest of
places, romance can exist. Not just a
changeling story—although that does,
of course, play a large role in the plot—
it is a love story that touched me
deeply. I very much enjoyed reading
this book, and I can easily recommend
it.

Jillian's dreams of a great white wolf
have helped her overcome trauma...
but what happens when she discovers
that her lupine friend is every bit as
real as the annoyingly sexy stranger
she's just met? Both Jillian and James,
the sexy stranger, must come to
terms with their pasts before there
will be any hope for a future. The
unraveling of the mysteries of each
other's lives makes this story
captivate the reader from the first
word and holds his/her interest to the
end.

The story is superbly plotted and
written. Suspense, romance and action
pleasingly balanced. I recommend this
book strongly. The story involves
what experts of paranormal incidents
call 'Changlings': humans that change
from their human form to another
form. Ms. Harper's writing caused
such suspension of my belief system
that I immediately wanted to travel to
Canada where this story takes place
in order to meet a Changling. Her
writing is very satisfying.

James Macleod, a wolf changeling,
has been in his wolf form ever since
the death of his wife and unborn
child. James retreated from the
emotional pain and to heal physically
by becoming a wolf. After thirty
years, James is more wolf than man,
and his family is very worried about
him, especially his brother Connor.
When Connor hires another
veterinarian to assist him, he is
surprised when James begins hanging
around more.

Dr. Jillian Descharme, the new vet,
has been having recurring dreams of
a white wolf, ever since she was
rescued from rapists by a white wolf.
Jillian calls to James and his wolf, but
can he overcome the guilt and grief
over his wife and child's death?
Meanwhile, the killer of James' wife
and child is still lurking and hopes to
finish the job that he started.

Ms. Harper is a new voice in
shapeshifter romance, and she pens a
very entertaining read with a tortured
hero and a stubborn heroine. I was
emotionally connected to the
characters from the start and felt their
pains and triumphs. Poor James is
such a wounded character, that I
wanted to give him a big hug. There
were times, that I was apprehensive
that he would never snap out of his
emotional pain. Thankfully, Jillian
came along and offered hope and a
new chance at life. Jillian is one
stubborn, determined lady, and there
were a couple of times that I wanted
to shake her. However, I understood,
that Jillian is a product of the trials
that she has overcome. A less
stubborn character might not have
survived intact.

All in all, HEART OF THE WINTER
WOLF is a great read, and I highly
recommend it.

...HEART OF THE WINTER WOLF is
an emotionally intense romance.  James
has allowed thirty years of his life to
pass, and must learn how to be human
again.  He questions his ability to control
his wolf side, and he tries to understand
the wolf’s fixation with Jillian.  Jillian
has had extreme trials in her life, and it
was the white wolf that has pulled her
through.

I was captivated by all of the characters
from the very beginning, and am thrilled
to know that she plans to continue this
as a series.  I look forward to learning
more about these werewolves.

...HEART OF THE WINTER WOLF by
Dani Harper is perhaps one of the best
put together and entertaining story lines
I have read in a long time. Ms. Harper
does an excellent job of not only
keeping the reader enthralled but she
pulls at a few heart strings while she's
at it, I swear I almost cried while
reading it!

Only one paragraph in the entire book
seemed to read slightly off to me, but I
figure that’s pretty darn good and I was
looking at it as critically as possible. (Of
course, I write in run-on sentences, so
what do I know?) Certainly there is
nothing in the book that pulls away
from the story and definitely nothing
that will keep you from being hooked.

Ms. Harper weaves an intricate tale that
will leave you flipping pages and
coming back for more. And while this
is indeed a book for mature audiences
only, I found that when a sex scene
arose they were presented in a tasteful,
yet, oh so hot and steamy way. While
the sex scenes don’t overtake the book
as they do in a lot of romances, prepare
to have your toes curl and your knees
buckle, better read while sitting down
ladies.

The first novel in Dunvegan Wolf Clan
Series, I eagerly look forward to
reading the rest just as soon as they are
released and I fully advise you to do the
same.

So congratulations Ms. Harper, overall
Team Doom gives Heart Of The Winter

Harper is an exciting and touching
story that I just couldn’t put down!

The Macleod family is a unique family
of changelings and their close family
dynamics add to the drama and
emotion felt throughout this story. You
can feel their pain and hope as they
pass the time eager for James to come
back to them as human instead of the
wolf he’s been for 30 years.

Jillian and James are both fabulous
characters with their strength and
tenacity in dealing with the painful past
and in dealing with present. The
electricity between the two practically
sizzled right off the pages and it held
me completely spellbound.

Heart of the Winter Wolf is one of the
best shape shifter stories I have read in
a while and I would love to read more
of the Macleod clan!!
